Jennifer Felner (she/her) is an Assistant Professor of Public Health and Director of the Undergraduate Program in Public Health at San Diego State University. She is a community health scientist with postdoctoral training in social epidemiology. Dr. Felner’s multi-method, community-engaged research examines and intervenes on the social and structural determinants of health inequities, with an emphasis on the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ youth and youth experiencing homelessness. Specific areas of focus include tobacco and substance use inequities, HIV prevention, and youth housing and resource access. Dr. Felner’s primary research goals are to advance health equity and justice through directly engaging youth and service providers as equitable research partners and collaborators, and leveraging critical, action-oriented research approaches.
